A thanksgiving mass was offered on the 7th of December at 10 am by Bishop Agnelo Gracias, concelebrated by thirteen priests, in the well-decorated basketball court of our school. This was attended by all our Catholic students and their parents, the teaching and non-teaching staff, the Management, our former principles and superiors and our well-wishers. Immediately after the mass, Sr. Jessy-our Principal, Sr. Sangeeta-our Manager, Mrs. Stancy Estibeiro-the senior-most teacher and Ms. Alicia Joseph-our student representative cut the jubilee cake.
The Management and staff showed their gratitude and appreciation to our well-deserved pioneers, ex-principals and superiors, by felicitating each one of them with shawls and bouquets.
The Cultural programme
The grand finale of our Golden Jubilee was held on two days – 6th December for the parents of the primary section and 7th December for the parents of the secondary section at 5:30 pm on the ground of our neighbouring school, St Mary’s High School, Kalina.
6th December – The Chief Guest of the day, Mr. R. R. Bhise – Educational officer, Mumbai region, was welcomed at the gate by Sr. Jessy, Sr. Sangeeta and Sr. Roshni. They were led to the venue by the school band. Mr. Bhise, Sr. Jessy, Sr. Sangeeta, Ms. May Fernandes and Mrs. Juliet Charles lit the lamp in reverence to knowledge, which removed ignorance.
This was followed by a prayer dance and Colour dance by our secondary students. Sr. Sangeeta then welcomed the dignitaries and the guests after which, Mr. Bhise was felicitated by our principal Sr. Jessy and primary-in-charge Sr. Roshni. The Kg babies then enthralled the audience with the musical, “Red Riding Hood”, which emphasised the importance of listening to one’s parents. The Primary put up the musical, “Hansel and Gretel” which transported the audience to the land of fairies and witches. It conveyed the message that perseverance and resilience will overcome any adversary.
Mr Bhise addressed the audience in which he exhorted the parents to encourage their daughters to excel, not only in education, but in other spheres as well. The Secondary musical “The King and I” followed. In this musical, a traditional English governess refuses to let her gender get in the way of doing what she thinks is right. The message which ran throughout was the idea of equality – whether rich or poor, literate or illiterate. Sr. Roshni proposed the vote-of-thanks.
For the parents of the Secondary section, the event was repeated on 7th December. This time the Chief Guest of the day was Oswald Cardinal Gracias. The other special guests were our Superior General Sr. Savina, Asst. Superior General Sr. Mabel, Provincial Superior Sr. Goretti, MLA Mr. Kripashankar and corporator Mr. Brian Miranda.
Sr. Jessy warmly welcomed our Chief Guest and the others, who were later facilitated. In his speech, our cardinal complimented the MSA Sisters on their work and encouraged them to continue their mission in liberating the girl child. He then released the souvenir commemorating the golden jubilee. Our guest of honour, Sr. Savina, in her message encouraged value-based education. The programme concluded with Sr. Julianna proposing the vote of thanks.
